If you have never been to a Christian church service, perhaps you’re a little apprehensive about what you might encounter. In this step-by-step walk through, we'll take a look at some of the most common elements in a typical Christian church service. Please keep in mind though, that every church is different. Their customs and practices can differ widely, even within the same denomination. Since it would be difficult to cover them all, the purpose of this walk-through is only to give you a general idea of what you can expect.

To learn more about Christian denominations visit this study of the various Christain faith groups.

Before visiting, to gain a better understand of the different types of churches and how to choose the one that's right for you, consider reading How to Choose a Church and Attributes of a Good Church. Because there are so many different Christian churches, faiths, denominations and practices, I would encourage you not to give up if you don’t like the first one you try.

A typical length of time for a church service is anywhere from one to two hours. Many churches have multiple church services, including Saturday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday evening worship services. It's a good idea to call ahead to confirm the service times.
