Reader Feedback on the Unforgivable Sin - "I Disagree with Your Definition"

By Mary Fairchild, About.com

Jesus states in Mark 3:29 - But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin. (NIV) (Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is also referenced in Matthew 12:31-32 and Luke 12:10).

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and this unforgivable, eternal sin have been a source of wonder for many Christians. It often raises this question: "If I'm not sure exactly what this sin is, is it possible I could commit the unforgivable sin?"

"I would have to say that I disagree with your definition. I feel the true definition is as follows..."

Background

Before reading Steve's true definition, check out this question from a previous site visitor, Shaun, who wrote:

"Jesus refers to sin and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as unforgivable sin. What are these sins and what constitutes blasphemy? Sometimes I feel I may have sinned."

Shaun's questions have challenged many Christians over the years, and so I put forth a very simple explanation to these intriguing and sometimes disturbing terms in my response. Check it out by visiting Blasphemy Againt the Holy Spirit - What is It?.
